How to Change Your Account Email on the Family Historian Store
This guide explains how to log in to the Family Historian Store and update the email address on your account.
Steps
- Go to the store Open your browser and visit:https://store.family-historian.co.uk/my-account/
- Log in
- Enter your username or email address and password.
- Click Log in.
- If you’ve forgotten your password, use the Lost your password? link to reset it before continuing.
- Open Account Details
- Once logged in, you’ll land on the My Account dashboard.
- In the left-hand (or top) menu, click Account details.
- Update the email field
- Scroll to the Account Details form.
- Find the Email address field and replace it with your new email address.
- WooCommerce may require you to re-enter your current password to confirm the change (this appears near the bottom of the form under a “Password change” section — you can leave the new password fields blank if you only want to change the email).
- Save changes
- Click Save changes at the bottom of the form.
- Confirm the update
- You should see a confirmation message on the page indicating the account was updated.
- Check the new email inbox in case a verification or confirmation email is sent.
Troubleshooting
- Save button does nothing / error message appears: Double-check the current password field — WooCommerce often requires it even for non-password changes.
- Can’t log in at all: Use the Lost your password? link on the login page to reset access first.
- “Email address is already registered” error: This usually means you (or someone else) accidentally created a second account on the store using the same email address in the past, so WooCommerce won’t let you attach it to this account too. See the Duplicate account / “email in use” errors section below for a quick workaround.

Duplicate account / “email in use” errors
If you get an error saying the email address is already registered, it likely means a second, duplicate account already exists on the store using that same email. A common trick to work around this — without needing support to merge or delete accounts — is plus addressing (also called “sub-addressing” or “tagged addresses”).
How it works: most major email providers (Gmail, Outlook/Microsoft 365, iCloud, FastMail, and many others) let you add a +something tag right after the main part of your address, before the @. Mail sent to the tagged address still lands in your normal inbox, but the store’s system treats it as a different email address, so it won’t clash with the existing account.
Example: if your email is jane.smith@gmail.com, you could use:
jane.smith+familyhistorian@gmail.com
Any email sent to that address will still arrive in jane.smith@gmail.com’s inbox as normal.
To use this as a workaround:
- In the Email address field on the Account Details form, enter your address with a
+tagadded, e.g.youraddress+fh@yourprovider.com. - Save changes as normal.
- Any confirmation or order emails will still reach your normal inbox — just double-check they haven’t been filtered into a separate folder, since some mail clients sort tagged addresses differently.
Notes:
- Not all providers support plus addressing — most big-name providers do (Gmail, Outlook.com, iCloud, FastMail, ProtonMail), but some smaller or workplace email systems may not. If the store still rejects the tagged address as invalid, your provider likely doesn’t support this.
- This is a practical workaround, not a permanent fix.
Notes
- This process applies to the store account (used for purchases, licences, and activation codes), and the Family Historian software login.
- Keep a record of your new email address somewhere safe, since it’s tied to your software licence and account recovery.
